The Federation of Wedding Creatives presents
Derbyshire wedding photographer
My approach to weddings as a Derbyshire wedding photographer is rooted in storytelling, documenting your day as it naturally unfolds, with as little interference as I can possibly get away with. When you look through your photos, I want you to remember each moment and how you felt, not the photographer who kept asking you to move three inches to the left for better light or insisted on 17 different ways to hold a bouquet! Roughly 90% of what I capture is completely candid. Real moments, raw emotion, and the genuine atmosphere of your wedding day. Aside from a short round of family formals (only if you want them!) and a relaxed, gently guided couple’s portrait session that can take as little as 10 minutes (again—if you want to), my goal is to keep you present with your people. This is your wedding day, not a photoshoot, and I’m here to capture it truthfully, beautifully, and unobtrusively.

Approach
Q.How many photos will we get?
A.It’s almost impossible to say, I won’t hold back and you’ll get as many photos as I edit, and I’ll edit as many photos as I think are good! This will also depend on how long you want me for and whether you opt for a second photographer. For a full day I don’t think I’ve ever delivered less than 500 so let’s use that as the benchmark!
Q.We are not professional models... Will you be able to take nice wedding photos?
A.Unless you are vampires who won’t show up in the photos - yes! None of my couples have been professional models and 99% had the same worries about not liking their photo being taken. Don’t worry about it! I like to think I’m pretty good at getting people to relax and enjoy the process, though if I’m completely honest this is probably because you’re so wrapped up in your awesome wedding day that all the worries melt away.
Q.What type of wedding photos can we expect?
A.My goal is to tell the story of the day so expect the candid shots of you and your guests throughout the day and night, photos of the details, formal family photos, as well as couples portraits that you’ll love to show off! Something we’ll discuss before the big day is what YOUR priority is for your photos. Personally I love the couples portraits but it may be that the most important thing for you are the family formals. We can discuss this beforehand and I’ll adapt my approach to meet your needs (it’s your day after all!).
Q.What happens is you are ill on our wedding day?
A.It hasn’t happened yet (touch wood!) but in the unlikely eventuality that I am too ill to work, I am part of many networks of wedding photographers and ‘second shooters’ that provide cover if such a thing comes to pass. However rest assured that I will do everything in my power to be there on the day, I don’t take this lightly!
Q.Would you rather fight one horse-sized duck or one hundred duck-sized horses?
A.I’ve given this a lot of thought and I’ve finally landed on 100 duck-sized horses. Ultimately the main risk with a normal sized horse is getting trampled, right? Being shrunk down to the size of a duck diminishes much of that risk as well as slowing them down a bit due to leg-span. Plus I feel like 100 of them coming at you - they’re bound to get in each others’ way. On the other hand I once tried to walk around a lake but was blocked by a very angry, regular-sized duck and had to turn around and walk all the way back around. Imagine that being blown up to horse size! I don’t need that kind of grief.
